Community partnerships are the heartbeat of innovation. Recently, Unison Bank made a transformative gift of $25,000 to JRMC’s Hugs® and Kisses® Pediatric Protection System upgrade, helping bring this vital project to completion.
Unison Bank has a long-standing relationship with JRMC and a deep respect for the role we play in the health and stability of our region. When asked what drew them to this initiative, Kelly Rachel, board president and CEO, explains, “We were immediately drawn to its purpose: protecting infants, supporting families and enhancing patient safety during one of life’s most meaningful moments. Supporting an initiative that directly strengthens infant safety aligned naturally with our values and our mission.”

The Hugs and Kisses system adds an extra layer of protection and peace of mind for families during one of the most important times of their lives. As Kelly shares, “It reinforces our belief that collective investment in healthcare creates real, meaningful change.”
For Riley Akervik, senior VP of finance and JRMC Foundation board member, giving to JRMC is personal, as it is for many who value high-quality care close to home. “Every contribution strengthens patient safety, sustains essential services and supports the professionals who serve our community with compassion and expertise,” Riley says. Riley’s advocacy for this project is inspired by his own connection to JRMC, where a loved one received exceptional care during a long cancer journey.
“A gift to JRMC is an investment in the health, safety and future of our community,” he said.
Unison Bank views philanthropy as part of its mission. “Where You Matter isn’t just a slogan,” Riley says. “By investing in partners like JRMC, we align our values with action, creating long-term, positive outcomes for families and communities. When communities thrive, people thrive.”
At JRMC, we are deeply grateful for this partnership, which demonstrates the power of organizations, donors and healthcare providers working together. Thank you to Unison Bank for your leadership, generosity and dedication to protecting families and strengthening our community.
