Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) has received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Referring Center Silver Plus award for its commitment to providing rapid, research-based care to people experiencing a specific type of heart attack known as an ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), one of the most severe and life-threatening types of heart attacks.

This award reflects JRMC’s adherence to the latest clinical guidelines and best practices, leading to improved patient outcomes, including fewer readmissions, shorter recovery times and more lives saved. According to the American Heart Association, about 30% of acute coronary syndrome cases are STEMIs, which occur when a coronary artery becomes completely blocked.

“The achievement is possible because of our teams’ dedication to following evidence-based guidelines, collaborating across departments and ensuring patients receive timely, life-saving care. We are so thankful for the compassion, expertise and teamwork JRMC brings to patients every day,” said JRMC Chief Nursing Officer Trisha Jungels. “Awards like this reflect our commitment to excellence and the shared mission to exceed expectations and be the difference in the lives of those we serve.”

This marks the second consecutive year JRMC has been recognized by the American Heart Association for excellence in the care of patients with coronary artery disease. The national recognition highlights the medical center’s commitment to delivering the latest evidence-based cardiac care.

“Effective and timely care is critical for patients experiencing a STEMI heart attack. The American Heart Association’s guidelines outline specific interventions for these patients both during hospitalization and after discharge,” said Abhinav Goyal, M.D., MHS, FACC, FAHA, volunteer chair of the American Heart Association Coronary Artery Disease System of Care Advisory Group.
