Founded in 1935 to provide high-quality, advanced medical care, JRMC is commemorating its milestone anniversary with a fresh new look and a renewed commitment to the future. As part of the celebration, the medical center is unveiling updated branding and partnering with the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce for a community event.

JRMC’s roots stretch back to 1928, when ground was first broken for what was originally named Jamestown Hospital. The Wall Street crash in 1929 delayed its opening until 1935. Seventy-four years later, construction began on the current campus, ushering in a new era of care under the Jamestown Regional Medical Center name.

From its earliest days, JRMC has pursued medical advancement. In 1939, the hospital acquired its first oxygen tent and iron lung. By 1943, a second wing was added to house a nurses training school. In 1966, Jamestown Hospital became one of the first two healthcare agencies in North Dakota to launch a home health department. Over the decades that followed, the facility led the region in nuclear medicine, respiratory care, emergency care and swing bed services.

JRMC was the first facility in North Dakota to offer 3D mammography.

More recent milestones include becoming the first in North Dakota to offer 3D mammography and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. The opening of the JRMC Cancer Center in 2019 has saved patients more than 500,000 miles in travel. In 2025, the medical center expanded its imaging department with advanced ultrasound systems and introduced same-day joint replacements — allowing eligible patients to return home the day of surgery.

Today, JRMC continues to grow its specialty services. It provides 24/7 OB-GYN care and is recognized as the best place in the region to have a baby. The JRMC Specialty Clinic also offers orthopedics, ENT, urology, advanced wound care services and podiatry — with the podiatry team expanding in July with a new provider.

“This milestone is a celebration of JRMC’s long-standing commitment to advancement and innovation,” said Mike Delfs, JRMC president and CEO. “It demonstrates the pioneering spirit JRMC was founded under — to constantly anticipate and meet the needs of our region.”

The medical center has earned national recognition for both patient care and workplace excellence. It has been named a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital by the National Rural Health Association for six straight years and one of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals by the Chartis Center for Rural Health for 12 consecutive years. JRMC has also been named a Best Place to Work eight times by Modern Healthcare.

To honor its past and reflect its future, JRMC is launching a new brand identity. The refreshed logo keeps the familiar apple — a symbol of health and vitality — now featuring a subtle care ribbon, representing compassion and support. The brand’s new primary color, red, reflects passion, ambition and boldness.

“As JRMC continues to grow, innovate and set the standard for rural healthcare, our updated brand reflects that positive momentum, said Heather Erholtz, JRMC strategy and planning director. “Our new look honors the past and invites the future. JRMC has done a lot of growing up and we are much more than a hospital.”

As JRMC moves forward, it remains focused on expanding its services, investing in technology and building a skilled, compassionate team.

The public is invited to join the celebration. Alongside the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce, JRMC will host a S.T.I.R. event and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Aug. 26. Guests can meet JRMC Specialty Clinic providers and enjoy snacks and prizes.
