Eighty-eight years, over 400,000 hours, and too many memories to count. Since the origins of organized volunteerism at Jamestown Hospital in 1937, these dedicated individuals have been the heart of JRMC — creating the warm, welcoming environment our patients and families experience every day.
Today, nearly 70 volunteers continue this legacy of service. They support every corner of JRMC — from the front desk and Gift Shoppe to the Surgery Center, Family BirthPlace and rehabilitation department. Their dedication also extends beyond our walls through our signature events and the JRMC Auxiliary, which hosts fundraisers that further the Foundation’s mission of enhancing and supporting JRMC’s work.
Our volunteers are much more than smiling faces. They are the steady hands sewing walker bags, the stitchers behind every newborn’s blanket and the caring driver who makes sure a patient arrives safely.
“I volunteer because it gets me out of my house and in the community,” said Eunice Sahr, JRMC Foundation board member and volunteer. “I love meeting new people and expanding my connections.”
JRMC offers many opportunities to match different interests and schedules. Whether you enjoy interacting with people, working behind the scenes or lending a hand at special events, there is a place for everyone to make a meaningful impact. The time commitment is flexible, and the experience is rewarding.
“Our volunteers are truly irreplaceable,” says Shayley Salisbury, JRMC Foundation Event and Service Coordinator. “They bring heart, joy and dedication to everything they do — from sewing for rehab to helping at events — JRMC simply would not be the same without them.”
