Jamestown Regional Medical Center is excited to announce its participation in the internationally recognized DAISY Award program, which honors the compassionate care and clinical skills of nurses.

While the award uses a flower symbol, DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The award was designed to acknowledge the “unsung heroes” in healthcare — the nurses who demonstrate extraordinary clinical expertise and tender care for their patients.

The award was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away in 1999 from complications related to idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, a rare autoimmune disease. During his hospitalization, Barnes’ family was profoundly moved by the extraordinary care and compassion shown by the nursing staff. Inspired to express their gratitude, the family founded the DAISY Foundation. Which has since grown into an international program, with thousands of healthcare facilities participating in over 30 countries.

At JRMC, patients and families are encouraged to take a moment to recognize the nurses who have made a meaningful impact on their healthcare experience. If a nurse has touched your life or the life of a loved one, this new award is a way to show your appreciation. The nomination process is always open, with JRMC selecting honorees up to three times a year. By submitting a nomination, you can help shine a light on nurses who go above and beyond to provide exceptional care. DAISY honorees are chosen based on their demonstration of compassion, skill and commitment to patient-centered care.

“At JRMC, we are honored to partner with the DAISY Foundation to celebrate the remarkable dedication of our nurses who consistently demonstrate excellence in patient care,” said Trisha Jungels, JRMC Chief Nursing Officer. “Our nurses are not only highly skilled healthcare professionals, but they also bring extraordinary compassion and care, playing an essential role in enhancing both the emotional and physical well-being of our patients.”

Each DAISY Award honoree receives a personalized certificate, a DAISY Award pin and a hand-carved sculpture titled “A Healer’s Touch,” created by an artist in Zimbabwe. Honorees will also be celebrated at a public ceremony held at JRMC, where their impact can be shared.

If a nurse has made a difference in your care, take the opportunity to recognize their contribution.
