Dr. Larry Johnson, a retired physician who served the Jamestown community for decades, knows firsthand how critical access to quality care can be. After suffering his third transient ischemic attack (TIA), or “mini stroke”, while exercising at Two Rivers Activity Center, he was rushed to JRMC’s Emergency Department, where ED physicians Dr. Steve Inglish and Dr. Bradly Skari stabilized him. With no cardiac beds available in North Dakota, our team acted quickly, arranging an emergency flight to Sioux Falls, giving him the time and care he needed. He later returned to JRMC, completing stroke rehab with physical therapist Sherry Benson, regaining his strength and confidence — proof that recovery close to home can make all the difference for you and your family.
Dr. Johnson and his wife, Tish, have been dedicated supporters of JRMC, giving back to the medical center that has given so much to them. In October 2025, he reached out to see how they could finalize an ongoing safety project, which added a secure access-controlled door, to protect the admissions team and improve patient safety. His contribution became the final gift — the one that brought the project over the finish line.
“They made the days we now have possible. We wanted to give back in a meaningful way to the team that saved my life and continues to care for our community,” Dr. Johnson says.
Today, Dr. Johnson and Tish are looking ahead with gratitude — planning regular rounds of golf and enjoying a growing stack of books to read.
“I’m thankful for the bonus time JRMC has given me,” he said.
By giving to JRMC, you help grow future medical center improvements and life-saving projects like the emergency department safety project.
