Jamestown Regional Medical Center is proud to announce it has been recognized by Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota with Blue Distinction® Centers+ (BDC+) for Maternity Care designation. JRMC is one of only seven medical centers in North Dakota to receive this designation.
“This recognition highlights JRMC’s commitment to delivering high quality, safe care for mothers and their newborns,” said Mike Delfs, JRMC President & CEO. “Our skilled family practice providers, OB/GYNs and nursing staff all work hard to ensure the best possible experience and outcomes for our patients. We are honored to be recognized as a leader in maternity care.”
The Blue Distinction Centers+ for Maternity Care program evaluates hospitals on several quality measures, including the percentage of newborns who undergo early elective delivery, C-sections and episiotomies. The program also evaluates hospitals’ overall patient satisfaction, re-admission and complication rates.
Data from Blue Distinction Centers for Maternity Care shows that designated facilities provide higher-quality maternity care than non-designated facilities. On average, designated facilities have episiotomy rates 26% lower, elective deliveries 60% lower and cesarean births 17% lower. All these measures indicate better patient outcomes. Facilities designated under enhanced BDC+ criteria also averaged 21% lower costs for maternity care.
“Achieving excellence in quality of care is the goal of BCBSND’s Blue distinction programs. JRMC has achieved the designation of a Blue Distinction Center of Excellence for its level of care for Maternity. We believe in recognizing those health care facilities that reach the highest quality for our members,” says Chief Medical Officer Dr. Greg Glasner, MD, at BCBSND. “As a Blue Distinction Center, JRMC has demonstrated its commitment to its patients and expertise in specialty care.”
JRMC offers a full scope of obstetric and gynecologic services, including prenatal care, labor and delivery, postpartum support and specialized gynecologic surgery. It is of the few remaining rural medical centers in North Dakota that still offers labor and delivery services. The medical center delivers around 350 babies each year.

About Blue Distinction Centers
Blue Distinction Centers (BDC) met overall quality measures, developed with input from the medical community. A Local Blue Plan may require additional criteria for providers located in its own service area; for details, contact your Local Blue Plan. Blue Distinction Centers+ (BDC+) also met cost measures that address consumers’ need for affordable healthcare. Each provider’s cost of care is evaluated using data from its Local Blue Plan. Providers in CA, ID, NY, PA, and WA may lie in two Local Blue Plans’ areas, resulting in two evaluations for cost of care; and their own Local Blue Plans decide whether one or both cost of care evaluation(s) must meet BDC+ national criteria. National criteria for BDC and BDC+ are displayed on www.bcbs.com. Individual outcomes may vary. For details on a provider’s in-network status or your own policy’s coverage, contact your Local Blue Plan and ask your provider before making an appointment. Neither Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association nor any Blue Plans are responsible for noncovered charges or other losses or damages resulting from Blue Distinction or other provider finder information or care received from Blue Distinction or other providers.
