Jamestown Regional Medical Center announced Greg Nordstrom as its most recent Legend Award recipient.

The Legend Award is the most prestigious distinction for a JRMC employee. The Legend Award recognizes employees who exceed expectations and are THE difference in the lives of those they serve.

Radiology Manager Jason Schaffer nominated Nordstrom, a JRMC Echocardiographer. Nordstrom provides legendary care for patients with enthusiasm.

“Greg is compassionate, courteous and helps patients feel comfortable during their exam. He also answers all patient questions and helps them understand the next steps,” Schaffer said. “At JRMC, people are able to receive high quality care, a very good experience, and stay close to home because of Greg. As an example, he is the only technologist to provide nuclear medicine imaging in Jamestown. That means every patient needing nuclear medicine imaging is able to have their care close to home rather than traveling – and that’s all because of Greg. Greg is THE difference for people who are in need of care in our community. He provides legendary care every day for every person he cares for. Every day he adds another story to his legendary book.”

JRMC’s 350 employees cast anonymous votes to select each Legend Award winner.

The purpose of the Legend Award is to inspire, motivate and capture the moments that define JRMC. The goal is to help employees and volunteers connect to the sense of purpose that brought them to the organization. This award is for employees who’ve made extreme efforts to benefit their patients and colleagues.

“The nominations inspire staff members to continually be THE difference in the lives of those we serve,” said JRMC President & CEO, Mike Delfs.

Once nominated, both JRMC administration and employees vote on their favorite nominees and their stories.

“On a personal note, Greg had a profound impact on me and my professional career as well,” Schaffer said. “The experience he provided me as a patient motivated me to pursue a career in healthcare. Greg is definitely a legend in my book of stories.”

The Legend Award first began in 2012. Since then, more than 35 individuals have been named Legends and more than 110 employees were nominated.

Lots of Laughs and Dad Jokes

“Greg Nordstrom’s legendary story is not about one story but rather many stories that have been compiled over time that demonstrate why he is legendary,” Schaffer said.

Greg has been employed at JRMC for over 21 years. During this time, he has expanded his knowledge and skill set to provide safe and high-quality care for patients in nearly every aspect of Radiology including x-ray, computed tomography, bone densitometry, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, and echocardiography.

“It is very uncommon for someone to have a skill set this diverse,” Schaffer said. “Greg is passionate about caring for others and has used this as motivation for personal growth. With this growth comes challenges, including remaining competent and providing high quality care in many areas of expertise, meeting requirements for numerous licensures and certifications, and being asked to sacrifice personal time to work, be on call, and come in on a day off, Greg’s answer is always yes. Greg is also an enjoyable co-worker and has fun while at work. You are guaranteed to have a good laugh while Greg is working, and he always has a cheesy “dad joke” to share.”

Best of all, he does all of this while always providing a very good patient experience.

“Greg is compassionate, courteous, assures that patients are comfortable during their exam, and assures that patient questions are answered and they understand next steps,” Schaffer said.  “At JRMC, people are able to receive high quality care, a very good experience, and stay close to home because of Greg. As an example, he is the only technologist that provides nuclear medicine imaging in Jamestown, so every patient that has nuclear medicine imaging at JRMC is able to have their care close to home rather than traveling because of him. Greg is the difference for people who are in need of care in our community and provides legendary care every day for every person he cares for. Every day he adds another story to his legendary book.”

“On a personal note, Greg had a profound impact on me and my professional career as well,” Schaffer said. “When I was a teenager, I sustained a head injury that required a CT scan and Greg was the technologist. He was calm and comforting during the exam which was something that I recalled years later as I was a young adult deciding on a career. The experience he provided me as a patient motivated me to pursue a career in healthcare. Greg is definitely a legend in my book of stories.”

Greg you are an inspiration. Thank you Greg for being THE Difference at JRMC!
