In celebration of Women’s Health Month this May, Jamestown Regional Medical Center is honoring inspiring women in the community by launching its annual SHERO award cycle. A “SHERO” is a positive role model who inspires others through her courage, outstanding achievements and impact on the community.

JRMC is now accepting nominations for local SHEROES through May 3. Nominations should explain what makes her a role model and inspiration to others. Nominees must be 18 years or older and reside in central North Dakota.

“We want to honor women in our community who uplift and empower other women,” said Makenzie Breitbach, JRMC Nurse Practitioner. “Our SHEROES demonstrate leadership, compassion, determination and a commitment to helping others. They are making a real difference in people’s lives, and we want to celebrate them.”

The JRMC OB/GYN team understands that a woman’s well-being affects those she loves and all areas of her life. To ensure specialty women’s healthcare is available locally, the team provides caring support around the clock for every woman, regardless of age or situation.

“There are so many women in our community doing amazing and important work,” OB/GYN Dr. Stromquist said. “Though they may not always receive public recognition, their efforts do not go unnoticed. Our SHERO award is a way for JRMC to show appreciation for the invaluable contributions and say, ‘thank you’ for all they do to improve people’s lives in our region.”

JRMC’s OB/GYN team will serve as the selection committee and review all nominations. A SHERO will be selected and honored in a special mid-May presentation. The SHERO will also be featured on the JRMC website and social media channels throughout Women’s Health Month, helping inspire others with their stories.

JRMC’s first-ever SHERO, Melissa Burdick, celebrated with her four children Lylah, Harlee, Harper and Logan. JRMC created the award to celebrate women who do great things and inspire others to do the same. The SHERO award seeks to inspire the superhero in others.

The 2023 SHERO Award, Melissa Burdick, a single mother of four, recognized as a courageous woman who excels as leader of her family through her outstanding achievements and noble qualities. As JRMC’s first recipient, Burdick was celebrated by the OB/GYN team for her courage and ideals in juggling her responsibilities.

Melissa’s motto is to “just keep going,” even when times are challenging, “It’s the only thing you can do.”
