Jamestown Regional Medical Center has been honored with the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Bronze Award for its work in improving stroke care and addressing the health needs of rural communities.
People in rural areas, including those served by JRMC, face a higher risk of stroke and other serious health conditions compared to those in urban settings. The award demonstrates JRMC’s commitment to readiness in delivering fast and effective stroke care.
“JRMC is proud to be recognized for our efforts to improve stroke care for our community,” said Mike Delfs, JRMC president and CEO. “Our team works hard to ensure stroke patients receive top-quality care, even with the unique challenges we face in a rural setting. This award highlights that dedication.”
The American Heart Association recognizes the important role that rural medical centers play in providing timely and effective care. JRMC earned this award by following proven guidelines for treating stroke patients, which include prompt use of medications, quick transfers when needed and expert consultations.
“Rural communities deserve high-quality care and this award shows JRMC’s commitment to delivering it,” Delfs added. “Our team continues to invest in advanced technologies and ongoing staff training to ensure that patients in our community receive the best possible stroke care.”
The award honors JRMC for meeting key stroke care standards, such as using clot-busting medication quickly, ensuring smooth patient transfers and completing important screenings and assessments.
“Patients in rural areas often face more challenges when it comes to healthcare,” said Karen E. Joynt Maddox, M.D., MPH, an American Heart Association volunteer and co-director of the Center for Health Economics and Policy at Washington University in St. Louis. “JRMC’s work is helping close that gap and improve care for all patients, no matter where they live.”
