For the third year in a row, the National Rural Health Association named Jamestown Regional Medical Center one of the Top 20 Critical Access Hospitals (CAH) in the country.

“Receiving the Top 20 takes dedication and perseverance,” said JRMC President & CEO Mike Delfs. “There’s a reason why we’re a Top 20 in the country. Our teams are THE difference and continue to exceed expectations everyday with their passion for legendary care. This national recognition truly belongs to our phenomenal team at JRMC.”

In addition to the Top 20 award, JRMC has received the Top 100 designation every year since 2014.

“JRMC is a Top 20 hospital because we hold ourselves to the standard of surrounding larger hospitals,” said Podiatrist/Foot & Ankle Surgeon Dr. Rachel Renschler. “We don’t just see ourselves as a CAH. We see ourselves as providing care that should be in alignment to the larger systems in the area. With this we strive to achieve and exceed the expectations of patients in the surrounding areas by extending specialty and surgical care close to home.”

Dr. Renschler also serves as the chief of clinic at JRMC.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS

“The Top 20 award is evidence that JRMC is indeed a destination in the region – for patients to receive care, for employees to work and providers to practice,” she said.

Across the United States, more than 1,300 hospitals qualify as a Critical Access Hospital (CAH). A designation Congress created in 1997 to improve healthcare access in rural areas. JRMC has maintained its critical access designation since 2009.

“I’m so proud of our teams for their commitment to providing the best possible care for the community,” Delfs said. “Care close to home is important not only for patients but for their families as well. This recognition is well-deserved for our teams and the patient-centered care that is part of what we do every day at JRMC.”

NRHA determines Top 20 CAHs based on the results of the Hospital Strength Index and its eight indices of performance: inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspectives, cost, charge, and financial stability. This elite group of hospitals was selected from The Chartis Center for Rural Health’s 2020 Top 100 CAH list, which was released in February.
