As seen in AppleSeedsWhen Deb noticed blood in her urine last fall, she wasn’t overly concerned. She assumed it was a simple infection. But after a visit with her primary care provider and further testing, the results pointed out something more serious. A CT scan and ultrasound revealed an abnormality, and Deb was quickly referred to Dr. Brent Williams, urologist at JRMC.

Within days, Deb was seen by Dr. Williams and scheduled for a cystoscopy — a minimally invasive procedure that uses a tiny camera to examine the bladder. The results confirmed multiple tumors.

“It was overwhelming,” Deb recalls. “You hear the word tumor, and your heart sinks.”

But what followed wasn’t just swift medical intervention — it was JRMC’s compassionate, personalized care at every step. Deb underwent laparoscopic surgery at JRMC on Oct. 15, 2024. The procedure included tumor removal and a single dose of intravesical chemotherapy to reduce the risk of recurrence.

“The surgery team made me feel comfortable, safe and at peace. Dr. Williams makes you feel important. He’s so kind and reassuring,” Deb says.

Deb was able to return home the same day. She experienced a smooth recovery and, just three months later, a clean bill of health. “JRMC is just a special place,” she says. “More people need to know about it.”

Thanks to JRMC’s efficient and expert care, Deb didn’t have to sacrifice her plans or travel far from home. “JRMC specializes. There’s no reason to go anywhere else,” she says. “I got everything I needed right here — and I was still able to spend six weeks with my family on the beach.” It’s a life she loves — one filled with family, purpose and time well spent.

Deb and her husband Wayne have been married nearly 50 years. They live near Valley City, have three children and seven grandchildren and enjoy winter escapes to the Gulf Shores of Alabama. A life-long banker, Deb still works part-time and loves reading and walking in her free time.

Today, Deb continues her follow-up care with Dr. Williams every three months. She remains grateful for the team that helped her face the unknown with confidence. “JRMC has everything here,” she says. “They gave me peace of mind, close to home — and for that, I’m forever thankful.”
