A team of four makes up Jamestown Regional Medical Center’s orthopedics team. The team consists of two Orthopedic Surgeons, Dr. Michael T. Dean and Dr. Timothy Volk, as well as Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner Crystal Krapp and Physician Assistant Patrick Walter.
Meet Jamestown native, Crystal Krapp, APRN, DNP-C. Krapp is a doctorate nurse practitioner that works Dr. Volk in the clinic and surgery. She joined the team in 2018.
Where did you study? I graduated from nursing school in 2005 and worked in a variety of settings and specialties. I wanted to continue to challenge myself, so I returned to school to become a nurse practitioner.
Why did you choose to work at JRMC? My career began at JRMC as a certified nurse assistant in 2001. I have enjoyed serving the community, my coworkers and I appreciate JRMC’s goals and values. We work as a team, a family and professional unit to impact the lives of our patients. I am seen as a team member at JRMC and not just a number.
In your spare time, what do you enjoy doing? I enjoy traveling, outdoor activities, baking and spending time with my high school sweetheart and husband, Grant, and our two children.
What is orthopedics? Orthopedics involves the care of the musculoskeletal system.
We see patients with injuries, arthritis and other ailments that affect their bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons. They are then assessed and treated with a variety of methods to include physical or occupational therapy, exercises, medications and surgery as needed.
As a nurse practitioner, what is your role? I see patients from pediatric to geriatric, injuries to post-op visits. I see same-day patients as needed and assist Dr. Volk in surgery.
One thing I enjoy is teaching Joint Replacement Class. This allows me to build an interpersonal relationship with upcoming joint replacement patients and guide them through the process – from beginning to end.
Why should a patient choose JRMC Orthopedics? We offer same and next-day walk-in appointments, surgery locally and full-service care including personalized physical and occupational therapy within the same building. At JRMC, we ensure that each patient has a personalized patient-centered care plan that meets their needs to best serve them.
