Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC), a regional leader of innovation and technology, is partnering with Avel eCare to bring virtual Critical Care on Demand services to its patients. This initiative enhances JRMC’s already-strong care team through the addition of round-the-clock access to experienced intensive care unit (ICU) specialists.
“Our nurses can initiate a call at any time to consult directly with another nurse or physician,” said Lisa Schrenk, JRMC Patient Care Unit manager. “This expansion to the care team is beneficial for everyone — nurses, hospitalists, patients and the families who trust us with their care.”

On average, JRMC cares for 100 to 150 admitted patients each month, with about three to four requiring ICU-level care. While these cases are relatively uncommon, access to Avel’s experienced professionals gives opportunities for earlier interventions and reduces the risk of complications for all patients.
“Having an extra set of eyes and ears — especially from professionals with extensive ICU experience — gives our nurses greater confidence and opportunities to grow in their own careers,” Schrenk said.
Founded in 1993, Avel eCare has built one of the most robust telemedicine networks in the country. Its team of doctors, nurses, clinicians and other professionals currently serves more than 1,000 facilities across 45 states, supporting care for millions of patients.
“We are excited to partner with staff at JRMC,” said Doug Duskin, CEO of Avel eCare. “This program combines sophisticated technology with a spirit of collaboration — all with the goal of improving access to advanced healthcare.”
The medical center’s history of anticipating and meeting community health needs continues, as families can rest easier knowing expert ICU care is available right in their backyard.
By pairing the care team with remote intensive-care specialists, tele-ICU strengthens every layer of care, reinforcing JRMC’s commitment to excellence close to home.
“This investment reflects JRMC’s commitment to advancing technology and ensuring our patients receive the best care close to home,” said Schrenk. “Traveling for care can be stressful and, in some cases, even harmful. By investing in Avel, we’re making sure our community has access to ICU-level support right here.
