How did you choose your specialty?

I was drawn to this specialty because it allows me to bring new lives into the world and improve the quality of life for women through relatively low-risk surgeries, like hysterectomies or urinary incontinence procedures. It is a field where I can make a significant, positive impact.

What does gynecology mean?

Gynecology is the medical practice focused on diagnosing and treating issues related to the female reproductive system. This includes the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, breasts and vaginal area. It is a comprehensive field dedicated to women’s health at every stage of life. For any concerns related to your reproductive health, JRMC offers the full spectrum of gynecological services to meet your needs.

What is prolapse?

Prolapse occurs when tissue in the vaginal area falls from its normal anatomical position, essentially becoming a type of hernia. The bladder, rectal tissue or uterus can prolapse into the vaginal canal and it is more common in women who have had vaginal births.

Does having a baby cause a leaky bladder?

Yes, childbirth can make some women more prone to urinary incontinence. In fact, 25-45% of women over the age of thirty experience some degree of urine loss and most of these women have has a baby.

What is your top tip for women experiencing menopause?

Menopause is a highly personal experience; it affects everyone woman differently. My top tip is to prioritize self-care and maintain open communication with your healthcare provider. Tracking your symptoms and triggers can also help in tailoring a management plan that works best for you. JRMC provides personalized care to support you through every stage of menopause.

Is there a woman in your life you particularly admire?

Yes, my mother is someone I deeply admire. She has always embodied strength, compassion and grace, even in the face of countless challenges. Her wisdom, humility and dedication to improving our lives and community have been a constant source of inspiration for me.

What do you love most about North Dakota?

I love the strong character of North Dakota’s citizens. People here demonstrate and remarkable work ethic, independent spirit and a welcoming attitude toward both longstanding residents and newcomers. The strength and quality of the individuals here make North Dakota a wonderful place to call home.
