One college student is ready to race.
Kulm High School graduate Jasmine Rascon is ready for cross-country season after an injury at prom sidelined her.
The Bemidji State University freshman dislocated two joints in her left foot last April, leaving her unable to end her senior season in track and field. The injury nearly dashed her passion for running – and her college scholarship.
This summer was “very, very stressful,” Rascon said, saying she didn’t recover as quickly as she’d hoped.
When she wasn’t feeling better after six weeks of recovery, Rascon scheduled with Dr. Rachael Renschler, podiatrist/foot & ankle surgeon at Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Renschler joined JRMC in 2016 and specializes in the conservative and surgical management of conditions of the foot and ankle. When Dr. Renschler learned of Rascon’s injury, she acted. Fast.
“I was in surgery two days later,” Rascon said.
Adding to her stress, this was Rascon’s first surgery of her whole life. And her parents were out of town. Despite her anxiety, Rascon said Dr. Renschler and Registered Nurse Renelle Walker eased her anxieties.
“I’m really glad I chose Jamestown,” Rascon said. “Dr. Renschler helped me get back to what I love to do. She helped me get back to my passion.”
“Jasmine was a pleasant patient to treat,” said Dr. Renschler. “I am honored to have been involved in her care to get her back to doing what she is passionate about.”
Today, Rascon is working toward training for the upcoming season. She plans to study English Education and run track and cross-country for the BSU Beavers this fall and spring.
