Nicole Brandvold, respiratory care manager at Jamestown Regional Medical Center, has earned the distinguished Certified Professional by the American Heart Association (CPAHA) certification. This elite designation recognizes Brandvold’s outstanding achievements and career progression in patient care.
As a CPAHA, Brandvold has demonstrated her expertise and commitment to excellence in nicotine & tobacco dependence program. To earn this certification, Brandvold completed intensive training and over 240 hours of hands-on experience assisting patients in quitting tobacco use.
“Nicole is dedicated to providing the highest quality care to her patients and has worked diligently to advance her knowledge and skills,” said Mike Delfs, CEO of JRMC. “Achieving the CPAHA certification is a testament to her exceptional work and compassion for the community we serve.”
Brandvold has been with JRMC since 2017 as a registered respiratory therapist and is the respiratory care manager. She is also a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist (CTTS).
“I am passionate about empowering patients to live healthier lives,” said Brandvold. “Tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable disease and death, so helping patients quit is extremely rewarding. I look forward to continuing to provide excellent care to patients and advance health in our region.”
Two-thirds of the respiratory team at JRMC are CTTS, who have completed training through the Mayo Clinic’s Nicotine Dependence Center program. This training has equipped them to support patients through all stages of tobacco cessation.
The team is dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate care to assist patients in quitting tobacco use for good. They understand that quitting is challenging but remain determined to help patients every step of the way. Services include one-on-one counselling to create personalized quit plans, medication management to determine the best nicotine replacement therapy, follow-up support through in-person and phone communication. The team also provided education on coping strategies to manage cravings, triggers and withdrawal symptoms.
The team recognizes that quitting tobacco is a significant lifestyle change and wants patients to know that they have a team of supporters by their side. They understand patients’ concerns and goals, while working diligently to match the right resources and tools for each individual patient.
