Jamestown Regional Medical Center recently announced Anthony Gurrieri as its most recent Legend Award recipient.

The Legend Award is the most prestigious distinction for a JRMC employee. The Legend Award recognizes employees who exceed expectations and make THE difference in the lives of those they serve.

JRMC Support Services & Emergency Preparedness Manager, Dane Grebel, nominated Gurrieri because of his willingness to be THE difference and help his coworkers out in a time of need to ensure patients had clean conditions and linen.

“It has been said the weather in the month of March can have both lion and lamb characteristics,” Grebel wrote. “When Mother Nature ultimately decided that Grebel would not be able to make it into work, Gurrieri stepped up. He navigated through the unplowed streets of Jamestown, being stuck momentarily on several occasions, but was able to retrieve three of his coworkers and bring them all safely into work. At the end of the workday, Gurrieri brought four of his coworkers back to their respective homes safely.”

Gurrieri joined the JRMC team in 2015 and resides in Jamestown.

“He was more than a difference maker. He was a legend,” Grebel said.

JRMC’s 350 employees cast anonymous votes to select each Legend Award winner.

The purpose of the Legend Award is to inspire, motivate and capture the moments that define JRMC. The goal is to help employees and volunteers connect to the sense of purpose that brought them to the organization. This award is for employees who’ve made extreme efforts to benefit their patients and colleagues.

“The nominations inspire staff members to continually be the best, exceed expectations and make THE difference in the lives of those we serve,” said JRMC President & CEO, Mike Delfs.

Once nominated, both JRMC administration and employees vote on their favorite nominees and their stories.

“We are grateful for our employees’ commitment to patients and our community,” said Chief Operating Officer Ricki Ramlo. “Anthony is a great example of THE difference our employees make in the lives of those we serve.”

The Legend Award first began in 2012. Since then, more than 35 individuals have been named Legends and more than 110 employees were nominated.

NAVIGATING MOTHER NATURE

It has been said the weather in the month of March can have both lion and lamb characteristics.

The weather on Thursday, Mar. 14, 2019 was clearly behaving like an angry artic lion. Extremely high winds combined with wet snow made travel treacherous to say the least. By 4:30 a.m., Support Services & Emergency Preparedness Manager Dane Grebel was receiving phone calls and text messages from environmental services staff, linen services staff and the JRMC admissions desk as dedicated employees were searching for rides to work. After nine years of living in Buchanan, N.D., Grebel had not once been unable to trek into work because of the weather, until this day.

Anthony Gurrieri, linen services technician, lives in Jamestown, and made it to work for his 6 a.m. shift.

Gurrieri and Grebel had been exchanging text messages earlier that morning. When Mother Nature ultimately decided that Grebel would not be able to make it into work, Gurrieri stepped up. He navigated through the unplowed streets of Jamestown, being stuck momentarily on several occasions, but was able to retrieve three of his coworkers and bring them all safely into work.

At the end of the workday, Gurrieri brought four of his coworkers back to their respective homes safely. He knew that Grebel and his coworkers needed help, and that JRMC needed the help from these employees to ensure patients had clean conditions and linens.

Gurrieri was more than a difference maker. He was a legend.
