Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) recently announced Mason Ankenbauer as its latest Legend Award recipient.
The Legend Award is the most prestigious distinction for a JRMC employee. It recognizes employees who exceed expectations and are THE difference in the lives of those they serve.
Ankenbauer, an athletic trainer at JRMC, was nominated for the award by physical therapist Sherry Benson for his courageous and selfless actions during a recent Girls Class B Region 1 basketball tournament.
When a fan in the stands suffered sudden cardiac arrest, Ankenbauer acted immediately, administering lifesaving care until emergency medical services arrived. His quick thinking and calm demeanor in a life-or-death situation exemplify what it means to be a Legend.
In his role, Ankenbauer provides essential care to Jamestown High School student-athletes across all levels. He helps improve functional outcomes, educates on injury prevention and offers ongoing support throughout recovery. He is also a familiar presence on the sidelines, offering real-time care and support during games.
“His composure in a high-pressure situation truly exemplifies the best of humanity,” Benson wrote in her nomination. “Thank you, Mason, for your selflessness and for making a difference when it mattered most.”
Ankenbauer’s consistent dedication to others, on and off the field, reflects JRMC’s mission to exceed expectations and be the region’s trusted source of care. His actions are a powerful reminder of the impact one individual can have — a true embodiment of JRMC’s culture of excellence and the spirit of the Legend Award. That same commitment reinforces the values that have earned JRMC repeated recognition as a Best Place to Work.
