Personalized Care Every time
Pediatrics
Pediatrics is defined as patients 0-13 years of age. The most frequent diagnosis for pediatric patients is respiratory illness including respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), pneumonia, diarrhea and fever.
Intensive Care Unit
The ICU consists of three beds and specializes in the care of critically ill adult and pediatric patients. The ICU is also responsible for the cardiac monitoring of patients admitted to Patient Care Unit telemetry. Patient admissions are primarily comprised of acute heart attack, congestive heart failure, arrhythmia, chronic breathing disorders, shock and hypertensive crisis.
Medical
The most frequent types of medical care include respiratory conditions such as pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cardiovascular conditions such as congestive heart failure (CHF), stroke (CVA), coronary artery disease (CAD), diabetes, cancer and gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding.
Surgical
The most frequent types of care include hysterectomy, bowel surgeries, hip fractures and total joint replacements.
Telemetry
Telemetry monitoring is a continuous electrocardiogram (EKG) reading that shows the rhythm of a patients heart. The most frequent diagnosis includes fainting or near fainting, heart rhythm problems, permanent pacemaker insertion (post-operative care) and patients with critical lab values, such as digoxin toxicity and electrolyte imbalances and new onset atrial fibrillation.
Outpatient
Jamestown Regional Medical Center provides approximately 1,500 outpatient services through the emergency department. These include:
- electroencephalogram (EEG): a test that measures and records the electrical activity of the brain
- electrocardiogram (EKG): a test that checks for problems with the electrical activity of the heart
- chemotherapy: for treatment of cancer
- antibiotic infusions: provided for individuals with infections
- blood transfusions: used to treat anemia, when there are not enough healthy red blood cells
- dressing changes and wound care
- iron infusions for low hemoglobin
- immune globulin for immune deficiency
Swingbed
Acute care patients may be placed in a swingbed when they no longer meet acute care criteria and are waiting placement in another facility or are completing short term therapy or rehabilitation prior to returning home. The most frequent users of a swingbed are those recovering from post orthopedic procedures or those requiring long term IV administration.
Observation
Observation is a type of outpatient status. Someone in hospital observation status can spend several days and nights actually inside the hospital.
The emergency department (ED) is designed, and the staff are specially trained, to care for time-sensitive conditions. Nearly 9,000 patients seek care through the JRMC ED each year for trauma and emergencies of all kinds. Patient care is provided for orthopedic emergencies, trauma, heart attack (Acute MI), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), stroke, asthma and other medical and surgical emergencies.
