Congratulations to team NS Nuts, the top point earner for New Year New You Challenge Week 2.
NYNY is an eight-week wellness challenge that encourages participants to develop positive lifestyle changes.
Team NS Nuts includes four participants from Jamestown Regional Medical Center. Three hundred people from 26 teams are participating in this year’s challenge.
NYNY is about exercising and eating right. It’s also about staying healthy. One way to improve or maintain health is through proper care of health below the belt.
Stress incontinence can happen when a person exercises. Stress incontinence (unintentional leak of urine) can also happen when a person laughs, coughs or sneazes. While located soley in the bladder area, stress incontinence can also impact a person’s overall well-being. The incontinence can lead to missed work, isolation and limited excersize and leisure activities. These all reduce a person’s quality of physical, mental and social health, said Dr. Bates, JRMC Urologist.
More than 13 million Americans have incontinence, and women are twice as likely to have it as men, according the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
To reduce stress incontinence, limit caffeinated and alcoholic beverages, Dr. Bates said. Quitting smoking, losing weight and Kegel excersize can also help a person improve bladder health.
For this week’s NYNY bonus points, attend any University of Jamestown athletic event. Attending a game will yield each participant five bonus points. In addition, attendees can earn extra points for the work-friendly Lose Your Lap excersizes and the more intense High Intensity Interval Training.
Teams’ points are due by 10 a.m. Tuesday.
