Now that Santa is on his way, does your cholesterol need to climb down the chimney as well? Perhaps your belly is like a bowl full of jelly? Santa will not place you on the naughty list for sneaking a sugar cookie. But, he does want to bring you tidings of great health and wellness this year.
New Year, New You is a wellness challenge that begins Sunday, Jan. 6. During the eight-week wellness challenge, NYNY helps Jamestown and the surrounding communities put a little more “Dasher” and “Dancer” in their holiday season.
“Treats and good food surround us during the holidays, which makes it tricky to choose healthy options” said Madeline Ranum, JRMC cardiopulmonary rehab coordinator. “New Year, New You is a great way to kick off 2019 with a fresh start.”
Registration costs $10 per participant. It includes a free jump rope and a water bottle. 350 people participate each year through their employers, churches, families or other groups.
In addition, NYNY is more customizable this year. Because of this, participants will now be able to focus on the goals that mean most to them.
As in the past, NYNY participants earn points based on diet and exercise. In addition, participants earn points for improving their mental health, social health and obtaining recommended yearly preventative care like dental exams, mammograms and cholesterol checks.
Team captains are asked to score and submit their team’s points each week by 8 a.m. on the following Tuesday. Each week’s details, challenges and results will be available in The Jamestown Sun.
During NYNY, teams compete against one another. The goal is to become the fittest, healthiest team in the community.
“The great news is, everyone who creates a new healthy habit is a winner,” Ranum said.
Register your team today. Registration closes on Friday, Dec. 28.
